HackGT, in partnership with BME Learning Commons, is excited to host our first ever Healthtech Hackathon!

Students from the Atlanta area, of all majors, are welcome to apply.

With our resources -- mentors, workshops, and a place to work -- we look forward to seeing your ideas come to life.

During this event, you will be working with teams of up to four people to create a minimum viable product or a prototype. Your project can be either hardware or software focused, or a good mix of the two.

Inpatient Health

Design solutions to be used in hospitals and/or primary care. Hospitals can continuously innovate to have streamlined processes. This track is designed to help create a better industry by optimizing check-ups and patient identification, advancing devices, and improving hospital sanitation.

Global Health

Design solutions on a global scale, with a focus on advancing the necessary but limited resources of developing nations that are faced with major problems, including water safety, sewage sanitation, and misappropriation or misuse of resources. Innovation in low resource devices, large scale but low-cost patient tracking, and efficient distribution methods could all increase quality of life. Inter-hospital communication and global analytics connect the world, paving a way to a future in which everyone can receive the treatment they need.

Fitness

Create solutions that protect players during training and optimize physical fitness. Athletes regularly face risk of injury due to their arduous training schedules, and are in need of technology solutions that help them train more efficiently. Additionally, as technology becomes more ingrained in daily life, non-athletes are looking for ways to track their fitness as well.

Women’s Health

Resolve problems faced by women around the world, in all stages of life. This track is designed for students who are interested in dismantling the stigma around breastfeeding and feminine hygiene, determined to protect women against violence, or create ways to make women’s daily lives easier.

Prizes

$100 gift cards will be awarded to teams that win first place in any of the four tracks! There's also a sponsor prize!

FAQ

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is an invention marathon where people work in groups to build hardware and software projects ranging from simple websites to motion controlled drones. At this hackathon, you will be working in teams of up to four people to create projects within our tracks.

What if I don’t have a team?

We will have a mixer at the start of the event to help you find a team! Additionally, we will be making a Facebook group for attendees to share their ideas and find a team before the event.

How long is the hackathon?

The hackathon will begin on November 3rd at 7pm and will end on November 4th at 9pm.

Where is it?

The event will be held on Georgia Tech’s campus, in the Ford, Whitaker, and Marcus buildings.

Check-in will be in the Marcus Nanotechnology Building

Who can participate?

This year’s event is for 18 years or older college students in the Atlanta area.

Will my travel be reimbursed?

Unfortunately, we will be unable to reimburse travel this year.

What kind of materials or hardware will be provided?

You can find a current list of hardware here

We will have the BME Maker Space available for hackers to use, and if you would like to request specific hardware, you may do so in your application.
